Assertion Analysis #2 : Burger King Bill of Rights

“Have it your way” a famous slogan known for the fast food chain Burger King. The Ex CEO of said fast food chain had some points to make in their mission statement. He linked the slogan to the Bill of Rights. Comparing the rights we as americans have , to what you can order and how you order at the restaurant. He makes it seem as if everyone in America has equal rights, but do we? Can we all really have it done “our way”?

In the mission statement for Burger King, Brad Blum makes an allusion to the Bill of Rights which is an important factor in American day to day life. He starts all his sentences with “you have the right”. At first he states rights such as “holding the lettuce” or getting “triple cheese”, basically saying that the valued customer has the freedom to get what they want how they want with no hesitation. But is that really true ? Sure in the Bill of Rights we have freedom but to have things done “our way” we have to pay, just like you would as a customer in Burger King. Americans have to pay taxes which are the added costs to certain goods and services. Although these rights as a Burger King customer and their attachment to the Bill of Rights seems satirical there's truth behind it. There is a price to pay for what you want. This all relates back to The American Dream in the sense that you are free to do as you choose, but in reality you're not.

The image of the American Dream the US has advertised for years has always been false, not everyone is equal nor do we all have the same luxuries or opportunities. It's all false advertising, just like the restaurant itself. Sadly, as much as we'd all like to, we can't have everything done our way.
