Arugumentation- Dalai Lama

Material objects and the ideal of being at the top of the food chain is constantly implemented in our brains from the start of a young age. We are taught that the ultimate goals in life are to have money and be successful. In his statement Dalai Lama suggests that wanting more is the cause of ones own discontentment. I disagree with him in the sense that wanting more out of life and achieving the goals you have set for yourself shouldn't have a negative connotation.
Everyone has a different meaning of happiness, for some it may be what the Dalai Lama speaks about and for others achieving more than you already have can make you feel accomplished therefore making you happy. This is also scientifically proven. Dopamine is a neurochemical of happiness which occurs in the brain every time you set a goal and achieve it, also known as "The Reward Molecule". Setting goals and going after what you want shouldn't be frowned upon, although, just like everything in life, there has to be a balance. There is a fine line between making yourself happy and getting  to the point where you're content with what you have and plainly just filling in a never ending void in your life with material objects.
Although some may say that you can't buy happiness and objects just make you materialistic, it can be done with moderation and everyone has their own version of happiness. We have to learn not to judge one another. Of course there has to be a balance because there's a line between the neurochemical science of happiness and just being plain greedy to a point where you absolutely need material objects to fill a void in your life.
I don't believe that material objects can necessarily make you a happy person forever but I do believe that wanting more not only for yourself but for the people you love can get you to a place where you can be consciously happy with what you have achieved. The Dalai Lama has a good point, we should be happy with what we have, but sadly in a world like the one we live on that is not enough. We have to constantly strive for more, and for some people that's where their contentment is present.
