Argumentation #2- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ralph Waldo Emerson expresses the idea of being your own person and getting rid of conformity within society, to get rid of the standards society places on humanity. In order to be your own person you have to fend for yourself, speak for yourself, and express your own thoughts and words every single day regardless if you contradict yourself over and over. I believe that life has to have some type of balance, you can't have too much of something or it eventually becomes toxic. making people feel bad.
Voicing your own opinions in this day and age is vital, if you want something done then you have to speak up and demand what you want. With protests being the main topic of the century voicing your thoughts is a trend that has been going on for the past couple years. It's amazing that people are putting their voice out there and demanding change but there is a certain point that can be reached where it's time to input a filter. Take the current man people elected as president, Donald Trump. He speaks hard words every day and does not back down from his beliefs, he continues his argument no matter how stupid or how controversial they truly are. He is a great example of why you should have balance and have a filter. He believes that his ignorant and bird brained ideals are right and does not care for the opinions of others. He speaks what he has of a mind out loud without thinking of the consequences.
Some may argue that speaking your mind can make you a respectable and stronger person however your ego isn't all that matters in the world and you should think about having some empathy and think of the feelings that other people may have. Life needs to have balance, too much of the truth can become toxic and vice versa.
There are good ways to speak your mind and bad ways to do it. Speak hard words when it can make a positive change in the world and not when it has the potential of making us more of a divided world. For example women are finally feeling confident enough to stand up, speak their mind and take charge for themselves and that's amazing. On the other hand we have Trump that's speaking hard words for the worst. There is a fine line between speaking the truth for the greater good and being brutally honest to the point where it's rude and offensive.
